No workshop this month [Sep. 13th, 2005|03:32 pm]
Doug Ayen
Sadly, just didn't have the free saturday this month.

OTOH, I'm going to the Ashokan Sword 2005 swordmaker's conference this weekend. Should be fun, I've been looking forward to this for a while. http://www.dikonsword.com/sword2005

Since I have the wakizashi coming along nicely (still working on the base polish, but it's looking good), I'll bring that along for show-and-tell, along with the rest of the sword that I had to cut off due to those weird along-the-hamon cracks it developed.

Just put a couple more coats of satanite on the new forge, it's pretty much ready to go except I'm not happy with the mounting bracket for the burner, the three-point clamping setup that holds the burner in place is wobbly.

I won on Ebay an oil burner from a furnace, I'll be working over the next few months to get that hooked up to the casting furnace. If I can get it to work, that will help get the furnace running hotter, melting faster, and hopefully cheaper than blowing through a 20 lb tank of propane in a day.

I'll work with some people who I know are seriously interested in the tanto workshop to set a date for October to run another tanto/hamon workshop. I think I'll run with 10 slots again, first preference to those who couldn't make the last one.

Can you put up a picture of the cracks? I'd like to see them.

Wow, I wish I had heard about that earlier. I'll have to call tomorrow to see if they'll accept a late registration.
