Plumbing, forge work [Dec. 16th, 2005|06:28 pm]

Got a pulled muscle in the neck, or so it feels, that was bad enough I spent the first half of the day in bed, trying not to move my head. When that failed to fix things, took some alieve, and when that didn't work, added in a couple of ibuprofin a few hours later. That, and the application of some icy hot finally got me to the point where I could stand moving around.

Went to take my morning shower, and got only cold water. Bah.

Trudged downstairs, and poked at the heater. Looked like the thermostat was busted, complete with smoke stains on the cover. Pulled it, went to the store, got another, hooked everything back up, and heard the joyous hiss of water heating.

Spent an hour in the forge, got four more blanks forged out. yay.

Went in to shower, and the first 10 minutes were nice and hot. Then it got cold. Finshed my lukewarm shower, and went back down. Continuity tester says now the top heating element is shot. Whee.

So, tomorrow I'll valve off the system, shut off the power, drain the heater, go get a new heating element, maybe 2 (if one's gone, the other probably isn't far behind), swap in the unit, fill, burp the pipes, turn the power back on, and hope it's fixed for good.

Bleah. Not my idea of a fun weekend, fiddling with pipes. I'd rather be hitting steel. But, needs must, at least if I want some hot showers in my near future.
