some work done [Apr. 20th, 2003|07:42 pm]
Doug Ayen
I've been practicing the engraving stuff for the sickle -- this is harder than it looks, but seems doable. good thing I did try out a couple of test pieces first, or else I'd have to make a new blade as well.

I've also finished the heat treat and mechanical polish on the tantos, all that's left is the final rubbing down of the blade and the darkening. We'll see how they turn out, I've got one 1050, one O1, one L6, and one 5160.

Still trying to get the bloomery up and running, looks like I'm going to have to rip out the refractory I'd so laboriously put in on one of the piece and replace it, as it doesn't line up with the other two. that would cause major problems when making the bloom. Sigh.

Still trying to find a real job, market seems to be lightening up, at least. We'll see.
still dealing with depression and lack of motivation. It's getting harder and harder to get up in the morning and get things done. Even the usual todo lists and caffeine don't seem to be helping anymore.
