As promised, now that the phone is working again, more pics of the wootz process behind the cut.



Looking down into the crucible through the one-shot refractory funnel (aka a flowerpot).





The setup, as of the next morning.




The product, as it comes out of the crucible, in this case inverted. The metal that was at the bottom of the crucible is at the top, with the alumina slag underneath.




Lastly, the ingot with the slag removed. While it doesn't show up very well, there's evidence of reticulation in the upper left, but since the alumina solidified long before the iron did, it's subtle.




More (hopefully) after this weekend.
