contractors showed up today [Mar. 1st, 2010|08:44 am]
Doug Ayen
Woke up early, made sure the garage was open and the bathroom being torn out today was all cleaned out. Eric the contractor said he'd be there between 7 and 7:30 am, and sure enough he was there with his assistant at 7:15. Tarps are laid down to protect the carpet (which is also getting replaced, but later), dumpster is in the driveway (half-full with the house cleanout, but if we need more, I can have it replaced).

Part of this remodeling is to run 100 amps of 220v out to the workshop, so I can use the garage for (gasp) cars. This would also help keep the dustlevel down up in the house -- very little, in my experience, is as messy as finely ground steel, especially when you get into the 15 micron range and smaller.

First, though, bathrooms, kitchen, and new flooring. Oh, and a new hot water heater (the old one has about 3' of lime filling the bottom), and a water softener (so the new heater doesn't get 3' of lime built up on the bottom.)

can you install giant [electro] magnets around the house so the steel dust doesn't get in? :>

Keep us up to date on how this goes. It's amazing to see the dumpster fill up.

Riiiight. I'd have to have a working camera for that to work, I'm afraid.
