Lonesome Pine hammer-in/Batson/other knifemaker events [Mar. 9th, 2005|02:08 pm]
Doug Ayen
Well, just found out yesterday that there's a knifemaker hammer-in this weekend a few hours away. Since I'm feeling the need for some inspiration, I've decided to go, and called Larry -- he enthusiatically encouraged me to come on down. Event URL is at http://www.lonesomepineknives.com/mtnhammer.htm I still have to get a hotel room somewhere, but it should be fun.

I've also decided to attend the Batson Blade Symposium, http://www.americanbladesmith.com/Batson's2005.htm . I'll be driving down from VA, and if anyone reading this also wants to go and wants to share a hotel room, or needs a ride from the NoVA area or somewhere between here and Alabama, drop me a note.

The only other knifemaker event I'm planning on attending is the New England Bladesmith's gathering, at least if I'm still on their mailing list.

That said, I'm working on getting the house and shop ready for some open workshops, and a few seminars as well. Dates will be forthcoming once I'm sure I'm on top of the housework, but at minimum I'll be doing another casting party (bronze and aluminum), a diferential heat treatment/hamon workshop (I've got all these tanto blades from my experements that need new hamons, might as well share what I know), and some regular open shops on Saturdays (barring work schedule changes).

Last night, did the final work on one of the axes I've had kicking around. Looks sweet, if a bit primitive. If I finish up the other axe tonight, then I'll have the large single-piece forged chef's knife, the pizza-cutter-from-hell, the axes, and a few smaller knives to show off.

sounds like just the kind of events you needed :)
Let's not give up on the important stuff. The computer job isn't it. Not for you.
