Pizza cutter from Heque completed [Jan. 1st, 2005|10:12 pm]

[mood |accomplished]

Prototype is now complete; finally got around to finishing it up. Pics are at http://www.homeport.org/~ayen/photos/pizza/ Look for the files labeled pizza5.jpg - pizza9.jpg

I had some problems getting both the wheel and the handle to be in focus at the same time, sorry.

The nut at the end will be replace at some point by a machined, threaded knob, but I discovered that this model of bearing stud uses a different size thread than the last model I tried.

And, yes, I've tested it, and it cuts pizza very well.

Next batch will be started shortly, I'd like to make a few of these in differnt styles and toss them up for sale somewhere.

Also on the way are some pics of the process by which I made this years Christmas knives some folk got. I've photographed all the way to the profiling stage, leaving just a few more steps to go.

Have a happy new year, all.

Did you make the steel yourself? It has that watered-silk moire look to it...

damascus steel

The steel is pattern welded, L6 and O1. The L6 has enough nickle in it that it doesn't etch with ferric choloride, the O1 etches dark. So, while I bought the steel, yes, I made the patterns you see in the steel.

very nice! i'd never imagine that a pizza cutter handle could be so menacing.

also, the pizza5 pic really shows off the steel.

Thank you, I put a fair amount of work into carving the handle. I'm glad to see that it was worth it. :)
